SASO Draft Regulation on Energy Efficiency for Air Conditioners
Publisher:Admin  Source:  Date:2021/2/1

Recently, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality organization (SASO) released a draft regulation on the energy efficiency update of household air conditioners. The regulation No. 2663/XXXX is expected to be officially released in the second quarter of 2021. The standard mainly involves energy less than 65,000 Btu/h. Household air-conditioning products do not affect the old models whose certificates are still valid.

The new regulations introduce SEER to determine the energy efficiency label level, replacing the original EE, details are as follows:

1. Test standard: SASO GSO ISO 5151 or SASO GSO ISO 13253

2. The MEPS remains unchanged, and the EER of T1 and T3 is used for judgment:

3. Introduce SEER to determine the energy efficiency label level, instead of the original EER:

1) The calculation method of SEER is based on the calculation tools of ISO 16358-1:2013, Clause 6 and ISO 16358-1:2013/AMD 1:2019, but Saudi Arabia’s own climate data is used;

2) Attenuation coefficient CD: 0.2 for fixed frequency air conditioner and 0.27 for variable frequency air conditioner;

3) Test conditions:

• Fixed frequency air conditioner: T1 full load, T3 full load;

• Inverter air conditioner: T3 full load, T1 full load and T1 half load

4) The energy efficiency rating is determined according to the following table:
