Australia Lists TetrabromoBisphenol A (TBBPA) as a Class 2 Carcinogen

In May 2020, the Australian Department of Health issued an assessment report thatlists tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) as a class 2 carcinogen, which shows that the object seems to cause cancer.


This report provides data for the entire risk assessment, including the manufacture and use of the substance, expected Exposure to cancer and risk management measures.

 

TBBPA is a polybrominated flame retardant, widely used in epoxy resins for printed circuit boards and electrical equipment housings, and is also incorporated in the FACET database of food contact chemicals. According to the Swedish "Industrial Chemicals Act", TBBPA was identified as a priority existing chemical in 2005, and the public consultation on the evaluation budget was concluded on May 4, 2020. TBBPA is also considered to be suspected to be carcinogenic in the European Union, at the same time, the assessment is on the process about whether it will cause internal secretion interference.
