VN/ViệtnamOn April 1, 2020, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a Direct Final Rule within the Federal Register revising the CPSC’s mandatory standard for children’s folding chairs and stools to incorporate by reference the most recent version of the applicable voluntary standard ASTM F2613 - 19: Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Children's Chairs and Stools. The rule will be effective on June 6, 2020, unless significant adverse comment would be received by May 1, 2020.
The previous version ASTM F2613-17a was adopted as the mandatory safety requirement on December 15, 2017 by CPSC and was codified in the Commission’s regulations at 16 CFR part 1232. Compared with ASTM F2613-17a, the new version includes some editorial changes and a substantive change of the test requirement in section 5.8.2 by simplifying the minimum hinge gap size to 1⁄ 2- in. For all positions in a product without latching and locking mechanisms to reduce the number of probes required to verify compliance to the standard.
This rule would not significantly change third party testing for compliance to the safety standard, the Commission considers the existing CPSC-accepted laboratories for testing to ASTM F2613 - 17a to be capable of testing to ASTM F2316 - 19 as well.
