The latest Draft Regulations on ERP Eco-design and Energy Labeling

The release of the latest ERP draft regulations on lighting products

The European commission has issued a new ERP draft regulations on lighting products to replace the current regulations- EC No 244/2009, EC No 245/2009 and EU No 1194/2012. The new draft will be effective from September 1, 2021.

The main contents of the new draft regulations:

Product list:

1. Light source (undetachable LED module shall be regarded as integral light source)

The chromaticity coordinates shall be within the x and y limits.

The luminous flux projecting onto the luminous surface shall be less than 500 lm per square millimeter.

The luminous flux shall be between 60 lm and 82000 lm.

CRI > 0

2. Independent control devices (including adaptors, dimmers and controllers, etc.)

The requirements of energy efficiency and function:

1. The requirements of energy efficiency:

Pno and Psb/Pnet shall be tested.

Specific requirements: Psb≤0.5W; Pnet≤0.5W

The declared rated power of Pon shall be less than the Ponmax.

The calculation formula:Ponmax = C * (L + Φuse / (F*η)) * R

The main factors influencing the maximum power limit include product type, CRI, CCT and useful luminous flux.

The independent control device in full load running shall meet the minimum energy efficiency requirements. Meanwhile, Pno≤0.5W,Psb≤0.5W.

2. Functional requirements:

The main contents of this draft change include:

A. The test quantity of samples is updated to 30pcs.

B. PstLM stroboscopic test is added, the stroboscopic test requirements of North America are adopted.

C. More requirements on endurance testing are added.

D. As is shown in the table above, the limit value of DF is restricted.

The key point of the latest draft regulations on energy labeling:

1. It stipulates that the specific implementation date of the new label shall be September 1, 2021, but from May 1, 2021, suppliers (local manufacturers, importers) shall register product information in the product database, and provide new label for retailers. From September 1, 2021, retailers shall get new label for the products on the market, unless the products of the same model will not be put on the market any more. According to EU 2017/1369, the products without new label can only be sold till June 1, 2022.

2. The energy efficiency level is restored to the original standard: A to G.

The example shown below is for reference only:

3. Label designing shall be introduced after the consumer research.

4. For products sold on a commission basis or distributed through the network, the corresponding electronic labels are required. The electronic labels can be embedded into the web interface and can be accessed to through clicking the icon shown below. The color of the icon corresponds to the color of the efficiency level. This icon can also be used as an energy efficiency rating material for marketing.

Please note that according to EU 2017/1369, from January 1, 2019, products controlled by label directive shall be registered in the online database. For products sold between August 1, 2017 and January 1, 2019, the suppliers shall finish registration and upload the data before June 30, 2019.

The regulations above are still in drafting stage. We will pay a sustained attention to the official announcement of the EU, and update the latest information timely for you.
