The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released three documents related to Energy Star for imaging equipment on July 23, 2018. They are:

1. ENERGY STAR ® Product Specification for Imaging Equipment, Draft 2, Version 3.0;

2. Test Method for Determining Imaging Equipment Energy Use Draft 3;

3. Test Method for Determining Professional Imaging Product Energy Use Draft 1.

The Product Specification for Imaging Equipment, Draft 2, Version 3.0 contains the following important modifications, which are shown below:

※ Professional Imaging Product was added into the product list of the standard, and requirements related to this category are proposed (1.0 Clause A Item 8).

※ The two product categories of the Standalone Copiers and the Standalone Fax Machines are removed from the product list of the standard (2.2.2).

※ Adding the concept and test of Recover time, which requires measuring the time the product recovers from Sleep mode or Off mode to Ready state (1.0 Clause E item 4 and 3.3.4).

※ The weekly power consumption limit of TECDFE is modified (3.2.4 Table 2).

※ The requirements of the working mode and energy efficiency test for Automatic Duplexing are redefined (3.3.1).

※ The limit value of A3 in Maximum TEC Requirement Calculation is modified from the original 0.3 kwh /week to 0.05 kwh /week, and the energy consumption limit of 0.1 KWH /week for wi-fi is added to the calculation (3.3.2 Equation 6).

※ The Power limit of Multifunction Device-MFD under Sleep Mode Power Allowance is modified (3.4.3 Table 8).

※ The energy consumption requirements of the Cordless Handsets and Internal Disk Drives under Sleep Mode Power Allowance are removed (3.4.3 Table 9).

※ The limit and the definition of Standby Power Consumption are modified. In the new version, the Off Mode Consumption of 3.4.4 was used instead, and the limit value is modified from the original 0.5w to 0.3w (3.4.4 Table10).

※ Previously, all Products use a same Test Method, while now the Test Method comprises of Professional Imaging Products Test Method and Test Method for All Other Non-Professional Imaging Products (4.1).
