The purpose of Salt spray(fog) test？

Whether the metal materials, metal parts or coating in the atmosphere or the environment will appear corrosion phenomenon, you cannot found it until the product runs out of the entire life cycle or takes a long time. So you need a way to determine its corrosion resistance fast. And salt spray test is a way to speed up the judgment of corrosion resistance. By spraying a certain concentration of saline solution sprayed onto the product and placing the sample into the test chamber, testers observe the changes of the product which is placed in the chamber to reflect the product's corrosion resistance. In this way, we can get a similar result in a shorter time instead of placing the products outdoors for a few months or several years to wait for corrosion phenomenon.

What kind of products will follow the salt spray test？

Below products will follow salt spray test: metal material or metal parts, metal coating, fixed bolt, pin, nail, etc.; organic coating

Test condition

1. ※ Concentration of Salt solution：3% or 5%（By weight）；

2. ※ PH value：6.5~7.2@35 ℃；

3. ※ Chamber temperature：35±2 ℃；

4. ※ Collection of salt solution：1~2ml/hour/80cm2

How to fix the testing time?

Salt spray test doesn’t have strict test time requirements.  The time requirements are vary according to different products, usually multiple of 24 hours, and occasionally less than 24 hours.

How to judge the test result？

Below are several common methods of judging the test results:：Rating judgment, corrosion weight judgment, corrosion appear judgment, corrosion data analysis

Rating judgment

The rating judgment method is to dividing several rating by certain methods and judging the percentage of the corrosion area. A certain rating is judged as the basis for qualifying rating. It is suitable for the evaluation of flat surface samples.

Corrosion weight judgment

The corrosion weight judgment is to calculate the loss weight of the sample before and after corrosive. It is particularly suitable for assessing the corrosion resistance for metal.

Corrosion appear judgment

Corrosion appear judgment is a qualitative judgment. It judges whether the testing sample is corrosive after salt spray test. It is the general product standards for most of the products

Corrosion statistical analysis

The Corrosion statistical analysis provides a method of designing corrosion tests, corrosion data analysis, and determining the confidence of corrosion data. It is mainly used to analyze and statistically analyze corrosion conditions rather than specifically for the quality of a particular product.
