Recently, the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry found violation of the provisions on the registration of the following products by foreign factories based on order No. 43 of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2016: dairy products, edible oil, sugar, carpets, textiles and clothing, furniture, household lamps, children's toys, household appliances, cosmetics, kitchenware.

At present, more than 800 foreign companies' products will be suspended from import due to the failure to register product information within a limited time. The decree stipulates that the manufacturers or trademark owners of commodities must register with the General organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt before exporting their products to Egypt. The Egyptian customs will not clear the goods of the manufacturers who have not completed the registration.

Background

On March 31, 2022, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt issued Decree No. 195 of 2022, replacing Decree No. 43 of 2016.

The revised content stipulates that the registration procedure shall be completed when the company submits the registration certificate within 15 days from the date of submission of all materials. The company registration document must be re-registered within 30 days after the expiration of its validity. If the company fails to meet the above conditions before the deadline, it will be removed from the list of licensed companies, but can appeal within 60 days.
