Saudi Arabia Energy Efficiency Requirements for Lighting Product

On February 10th, 2016, Saudi Standards Metrology and Quality organization (SASO) in coordination with the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) have issued a new technical regulation for the Energy Efficiency Requirements of lighting products in KSA. This technical regulation namely “SASO 2870/2015-- Energy Efficiency, Functionality and Labeling Requirements for Lighting Products” will be enforced on imported and locally manufactured lighting products in the country starting from 1st May 2016.

SASO 2870/2015 covers the requirements for Energy Efficiency, Functionality, Marking, Hazardous Chemicals and Energy Efficiency Label of all lighting products under its scope.

Starting from 1st May 2016, all shipments of lighting products under the scope of this regulation will be checked upon arrival at the Customs Port / Border for the presence of the EE Label and EE Certificate in addition to the Certificate of Conformity (CoC).

The technical regulation covers direct and indirect lamps having a luminous flux above 60 lumens and below 12,000 lumens for the technologies of incandescent lamps, halogen lamps, compact fluorescent lamps with integrated ballast (CFLi), and light emitting diode (LED) lamps.
