Standards Updates:

AS/NZS 3105. A regulator has clarified that all switches for products in the scope of AS/NZS 3105 must be tested to AS/NZS 3133 in the accessory, including electronic switches. This means that AS/NZS 60669.2.1 or AS/NZS 61058 cannot be used for switches in portable outlet devices or portable control and conditioning devices.

 

Regulatory Updates:

The Declared High Risk Battery Articles Gazette has been published.

NSW Fair Trading has adopted a staged implementation plan to bring in the new requirements over a period of 18 months.

The 3 stages of implementation are:

Stage 1: From 01 February 2025, All declared articles must comply with the prescribed Standards however, there will be no requirements to obtain tests, certificates or markings.

Stage 2: From 01 August 2025, Sellers must obtain tests and certificates of approval to be able to sell the declared articles. There will be an exemption from marking requirements.

Stage 3: From 01 February 2026, All declared articles must be tested, certified and marked in accordance with the G&E Act.

Button batteries:

A reminder that these cause more product recalls than any other product category in Australia. Please make sure that you highlight the use of these batteries in any equipment for which you are making an application. They must comply with the Federal Standard for button cells and SAA will check that this is the case.
