On June 19, 2024, Canada published SOR/2024-109 Regulations Amending the Products Containing Mercury Regulations to amend the SOR/2014-254 the Products Containing Mercury Regulations. The amendment will come into force on June 19, 2025, which is the first anniversary of the day it is published in the Canada Gazette. 

The amendments to the chemical requirements are mainly the removal of homogeneous materials in battery and the elimination of the distinction between button cells and other batteries.
