Surabaya (SDPPI) – Indonesia and Malaysia have reached an agreement regarding the technical parameters of Digital Sound Broadcasting (DSB) and the use of 3.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies for International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT).
The agenda, which took place on 27-28 February 2024 at the Platinum Hotel Tunjungan Surabaya, resulted in several agreements, one of which was regarding the technical parameters of Digital Sound Broadcasting (DSB). "Apart from DSB, there are several agreements to review the distribution of Indonesia-Malaysia channels, regarding the 3.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies for International Mobile Telecommunication (IMT)," said the Head of the Technical Coordination Team and Spectrum Planning for Public Services and Spectrum Outlook, Nurmala Dewi.
Apart from that, there is also a follow-up regarding the realization of the 3.5 GHz frequency percentage in Malaysia. "and for the next forum, as well as the use of parameters according to those set by the ITU which have been implemented at the 3.3 GHz frequency," he continued.
The Directorate General of Postal and Information Resources and Equipment (Ditjen SDPPI) coordinates regulations regarding frequency usage allocation with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The 11th Special Task Force is a routine agenda that is carried out to resolve interference and update regulations between Indonesia and Malaysia regarding the use of the Radio Frequency Spectrum, especially in border areas.
Furthermore, the Indonesian and Malaysian delegations coordinated on several crucial issues, especially regarding frequency spectrum coordination in shared border areas in order to maintain spectrum harmonization and mitigate spectrum frequency interference.
"Several updates were conveyed, including microwave-link regulations , discussions related to proposals for joint measurements, especially for FM Radio Broadcasting," explained Nurmala Dewi.
The importance of a common understanding between Indonesia and Malaysia so that the use of the radio frequency spectrum can be in accordance with their respective needs and not interfere with each other "I hope that by maintaining communication, we can increase mutual understanding about the importance of coordination and harmonization of the frequency spectrum," he concluded.
