The European Commission (EC) has published Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 amending Annex XVII to REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning synthetic polymer micro particles.

This amends Annex XVII to specify that synthetic polymer micro particles shall not be placed on the market as substances on their own or, where the synthetic polymer micro particles are present to confer a sought-after characteristic, in mixtures in a concentration equal to or greater than 0,01 % by weight.

Example of products affected by this restriction are: cosmetics, toys (such as slime that contains micro plastic, glitter, micro beads, infill material for sport pitches, etc.).
