The European Commission (EC) has adopted a draft Commission Regulation (EU) amending Annex XVII to REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning synthetic polymer micro-particles.

Moreover, the EC has published Questions and Answers on restriction to intentionally added micro-plastics.

This aims to restrict micro-plastics intentionally added to products under the REACH Regulation - it covers all synthetic polymer particles below five millimeters that are organic, insoluble and resist degradation.

Examples of products affected by this restriction are:

cosmetics and toys (such as slime that contains micro-plastic, glitter, micro-beads and infill material for sports pitches.)
