VN/ViệtnamOn Aug. 16, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) posted an update to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Chemical Substance Inventory on its website. With this update, EPA declassified more than 500 substances. That is, it moved them from the confidential portion of the Inventory to the public portion. EPA also added substances and updated commercial activity data and regulatory flags, among other changes.
This latest version of the Inventory includes 86,718 chemicals. Of those, 42,242 are active in U.S commerce and 44,476 are inactive.
Under TSCA Section 5, companies must notify EPA at least 90 days before manufacturing or importing a chemical substance that is not listed on the Inventory for a non-exempt, commercial purpose subject to regulation under TSCA. They must do so by preparing and electronically submitting a pre-manufacture notice (PMN).
Under TSCA Section 8, companies must notify EPA before manufacturing, importing, or processing a chemical substance that is designated as inactive on the Inventory, but not more than 90 days before. They must do so by preparing and electronically submitting a Notice of Activity (NOA) Form B.
