Amazon recently announced that products sold on its marketplace that do not comply with energy efficiency labeling regulations in designated markets in the European Union will be removed on March 3. The products included include air conditioners, lighting products, electronic displays, washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers and refrigerators.
In order to better energy conservation and emission reduction, the EU began to implement mandatory energy efficiency access requirements for energy-related products in 2005, and products need to be affixed with energy efficiency labels in 2010, and new product information entered into the EU database in 2019, and the database information will be retained for at least 15 years.
What is the EU Energy Efficiency Label?
The EU energy efficiency label is the European Commission's requirement for manufacturers to mark the energy efficiency level of the product, annual energy consumption and other information on their products, providing necessary information for users and consumers to make purchasing decisions to guide and help consumers choose energy-efficient products and reduce energy consumption.
The European Union has established EPREL, the European Energy Label Product Database, and all energy-related products must register their required EU energy efficiency labels in the EPREL database.
Old and new changes to energy efficiency labels:
Previously, the EU had energy efficiency labels rated A+++ to D, and as more energy-efficient products were developed, and since the differences between A++ and A+++ were less obvious to consumers. From March 1, 2021, the EU gradually introduced a readjusted energy label, reintroducing the simpler A to G ratings. Therefore, the energy efficiency labels currently applied for are all new energy efficiency labels, if you are still using the old version, please remember to re-register and replace them.
Label content:
As can be seen from the label pattern above, the label content mainly contains:
1. Trademark or supplier name;
2. Product model;
3. Energy efficiency level;
4. Energy consumption in working mode, such as kWh/100h for home appliances and kWh/1000h for lamps;
5. QR code, users can directly link to database after scanning;
6. The energy efficiency level that the product conforms to;
7. Regulation number.
