On August 13, 2022, the US EPA released Energy Star Program Requirements for Televisions Eligibility Criteria Version 9.0, which is scheduled to be officially implemented on October 20, 2022. From October 20, 2022, all Television products must use new standard for Energy Star certification.
Since the release of Draft 9.0 version 1, EPA has worked with the Consumer Technology Association CTA to develop the CTA-2037C (Determination of Television Set Power Consumption), which will therefore be used in the final version 9.0. This will align Energy Star with industry testing methods, reducing the need for additional testing methods.
Compared with 8.0, 9.0 has the following updates:
• Proposed a new concept of Dynamic Luminance (DL);
• Evaluate Televisions performance in multiple Settings (SDR and HDR pre-picture Settings);
• Evaluate the Televisions in the network with multichannel broadcast traffic signals;
• Removed definition of Download Acquisition Mode (DAM);
• The definition of Special functions is updated to:Automatic Brightness Control (ABC),Motion-based Dynamic Dimming (MDD),High Contrast Ratio (HCR) Display; Gesture recognition and Voice recognition in 8.0 were removed:
On Mode energy efficiency requirements change from the respective requirements of three brightest states (Default, Brightest, and Default HDR10) to the evaluation of the average of the three brightest states.
• The energy efficiency requirements of On mode are changed from the requirements of the three states (Default, Brightest, and Default HDR10) to the average requirements of the three states;
• For network Televisions, the power limit of active standby low power mode is updated to 1W;;
• Removed the Download Acquisition Mode (DAM) energy efficiency requirement;
• Add test method and Standby Passive mode requirements for CTA-2037C;
The power consumption of Standby Passive mode is less than or equal to 0.5W:
