Special requirements for General Service Lamps (GSL), Nevada:
On August 24, 2020,the Director of the Governor’s Office of Energy adopted regulation R100-19。The regulation setsa minimum standard of energy efficiency of 45 lumens per watt of electricity consumed that must be producedby General Service Lamps sold in Nevada on and after January 1, 2021.
WHAT ARE GENERAL SERVICE LAMPS:
General Service Lamps (GSLs) refer to lighting applications traditionally served by general service
incandescent lamps (GSILs), also known as "A-type" bulbs. The majority of lighting in a residence is coveredunder the new standard and definitions, including:
• General Service Incandescent Lamps (GSILs)
• Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
• General Service LED Lamps
• Reflector Lamps
WHY DID THE REQUIREMENTS CHANGE:
As lightbulb efficiency improves and energy efficientlightbulbs become more affordable, GSLs withefficiency below 45 lumens per watt are increasinglyrare.Replacinginefficient lightbulbs could result in household savingsof $81 each year.
WHAT ARE THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF A GENERAL SERVICE LAMP?
“General service lamp” means a lamp that:
• has a medium, candelabra or intermediate screw base.
Ø is able to operate at a voltage of 12 volts or 24 volts, at or between 100 to 130 volts, at or between 220 to240 volts, or of 277 volts for integrated lamps, or is able to operate at any voltage for nonintegrated lamps.
• has an initial lumen output of greater than or equal to 310 lumens (or 232 lumens for modified spectrum.
• general service incandescent lamps) and less than or equal to 3,300 lumens.
• is not a light fixture.
• is not an LED downlight retrofit kit.
• is used in general lighting applications.
• GENERAL SERVICE LAMPS DO NOT INCLUDE:
