In the FCC TCB monthly seminar in January, 2022, a new rule was mentioned regarding the procedure to modify the reports or certificates granted by FCC for more than 30 days.

Regarding the change in the product model number:

The FCC will no longer allow its TCBs to make administrative changes (such as model number change) for FCC certificates issued more than 30 days, unless the change involves the technical regulatory rules for wireless products regulated by FCC. The reason is that many customers request modification on some contents, which is assumed "minor changes" for FCC, on their reports or certificates issued more than 30 days.

In FCC certification, an FCC ID is issued to identify the wireless product as compliant with the FCC requirements. After a product has been certified by the FCC, if you need to change the model number, as long as it does not involve any technical changes to the product itself, the FCC certificate holder is free to modify the model number, without sending requests to apply for such changes or reporting such changes to the FCC. When the product model number is changed, the FCC certificate holder shall make a detailed record in the company's internal documents stating that this FCC ID is covering a new model number, and the relevant self-declaration documents such as SDoC and compliance technical documents should also be updated accordingly.  These relevant documents should be provided when requested. These changes can be recorded by the manufacturer itself, and no need to request or report them to the FCC certification bodies.
