The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) of India has issued a notification on February 9, 2022, which bans the import of the following forms of drones: Completely Built-Up (CBU), Completely Knocked Down (CKD) and Semi Knocked Down (SKD) under HS Code 8806.

Government entities are exempt, as well as the importing of drones for certain R&D, defense, and security purposes that have been cleared by the government. Importing drone components will not require approval.
