New Rule for Electronic Devices in South Africa
Publisher:Admin  Source:  Date:2022/1/26

On December 14, 2021, Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) issued notice on the issuance of Certificates of Compliance (CoC) for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) for manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and retailers. It states that all electrical and electronic devices in South Africa that do not have radio frequency modules must now have valid electromagnetic compatibility certificates recognized by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).

Below are the main points of the new regulation:

• Electromagnetic CoC applications from test laboratories accredited by the International Laboratories Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) will be accepted.

• Applicants that are affiliated to the A-Lab program are guaranteed priority with turnaround times of ten working days for CoC issuance.

• Applicants that are non-affiliates have a turnaround time of thirty working days for CoC issuance.

BACL has been successfully approved as an authorized laboratory of SABS A-Lab program in South Africa. EMC report issued by BACL can be directly used to apply for SABS EMC CoC certificate. If you have any questions or related testing requirements, please feel free to contact us!
