In November 2021, the European Commission has proposed Commission Delegated Regulation to amend Annex I to Persistent organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 regards hexachlorobenzene (HCB) (CAS No. 118-74-1), a substance used in pesticides. According to the proposed Commission Delegated Regulation, the following specific exemption shall be added:

For the purposes of this entry, the exemption from control measures shall apply to concentrations of hexachlorobenzene (HCB) equal to or below 10 mg/kg (0.001% by weight) where it is present in substances, mixtures or articles.

Comments on the draft legislation will be accepted until 06 December 2021.

According to the EC website, the draft Regulation is proposed to be adopted in Fourth quarter of 2021 and will enter into force on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU (OJEU).
