On April 26th 2021, The Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA) announced the outcome of the 26 GHz spectrum auction. Of the 360 lots available, 358 were sold. Five companies have won the spectrum auction with frequency range of 25.1-27.5 GHz. This auction is one among a suite of licensing approaches that the ACMA has introduced in the 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands to encourage a wide range of innovative communications uses.

In the second half of 2021, ACMA will auction low band 5G spectrum (in the 850/900 MHz band) which will be crucial for broader geographic coverage of 5G services.
