News丨Energy Star for Water coolers Final Draft Version 3.0 is issued!

2021-04-14,the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the memo letter, with this letter, EPA is releasing the Final Draft Version 3.0 ENERGY STAR Watercooler Product Specification,Stakeholders are encouraged to provide written comments for EPA consideration to watercoolers@energystar.gov,the deadline to provide comments on this Final Draft specification is May 12, 2021。


Compared with V2.0, Water Cooler Final Draft Version 3.0 includes the following main updates:

Update 1:the scope of Water Cooler is updated: products that have dispensing functions such as sparkling, alkaline, or flavored water, in addition to cold and hot water will also be included in the scope of Water Cooler.


Update 2: Water Cooler V2.0 classifies the water cooler as the following three types according to the function:

 1. Cold Only Units: Units that dispense cold water only;

 2. Cook and Cold Units: Units that dispense both cold and room-temperature water;

 3. Hot and Cold Units: Units that dispense both hot and cold water

 And the Final Draft Version 3.0 adds the fourth type:

 4. Hot, Cook, and Cold Units: Units that dispense hot, cold, and room-temperature water。

 

Update 3:add the definitions of High Capacity Water Cooler and Low Capacity Water Cooler,
High Capacity Water Cooler: A water cooler with a cold-water dispenser capacity that is greater than 0.50 gallons per hour, for units that also provide hot water, the unit must have a hot-water dispenser capacity greater than 41 exact 6 oz. cups per hour.
Low Capacity Water Cooler: A water cooler with a cold-water dispenser capacity of 0.50 gallons per hour or less, for units that also provide hot water, the unit must have a hot-water dispenser capacity that is equal to or less than 41 exact 6 oz. cups per hour。

 

Update 4: The limits of Energy Efficiency Requirements for Water Cooler are updated: the limits of the water coolers with hot function and storage function are updated from 0.87 to 0.68 (for low-capacity) / 0.80 (for high-capacity), detail information as below:

Update 5:add the test method of the Cold-Water Dispenser capacity and Hot-Water Dispenser capacity, see the following table

The Effective Date of Energy star for Water Cooler V3.0:

This ENERGY STAR Water Cooler Specification shall take effect on March 1, 2022.
