On 23 February 2021, Regulation (EU) 2021/277 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) to set a limit for PCP, its salts and esters, under the POPs Regulation. This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The text of the new requirement is below:

When the POP Recast Regulation was published, pentachlorophenol (PCP) and its salts and esters were listed in Annex I to the legislation without an Unintentional Trace Contaminant (UTC) limit value. Such UTC would clarify the legal situation and would facilitate the enforcement.
