TISI New Marking Requirements for Secondary Cells and Batteries

TISI announced the official regulations of TIS2217-2548 for secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes on December 21, 2020.

 

1. Scope: marking requirements for secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline batteries or other non-acid electrolytes.

2. Effective date:  January 21, 2021, however, TISI is asking government to postpone effective date for additional 180 days.

3. Marking Requirements:

a) TISI/QR code mark should be displayed on battery and on packaging in addition

b) Location of TIS mark should be on the battery

c) TIS mark size shall be suitable and proportional to size of battery with following standard:

-  Mark size shouldn’t be smaller than 3 mm

-  Text height of standard number cannot be less than 1.5 mm

d) QR code marking shall be displayed in the same area with TIS mark with size not less than 10 mm

e) Certificate holder needs to login to below website to create QR code:

4. Additional Notes:

If QR code cannot be displayed on battery (e.g. battery size is too small or not possible to print QR code on battery), then it can displayed on packaging together with TIS mark. However, in this case, TIS mark shall still be displayed on battery.
