On 13th October 2020, Malaysia government has announced the implementation of National Digital Network Plan or JENDELA. Pursuant to that, 3G network will be phased out by the end of 2021.The implementation is named as 3G Network Sunset.
The main points are:
1. Subject: Implementation Plan for 3G Network Sunset.
2. Background: Government plans to turn off 3G networks in stages to improve 4G networks which will serve as a strong foundation for 5G.
3. Current Status: Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has instructed to stop the issuance of approval and renewal of 3G only device and 4G-capable mobile phones without Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
4. Exception: Certificate holders of 4G-capable mobile phones will need to declare if their product supports VoLTE or not through provided form. SIRIM will verify its compliance and update the specific Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
