On 3 September 2020, the Official Journal of the European Union published Regulation (EU) 2020/1245 to amend and correct the food contact plastics regulation (EU) No 10/2011. This Regulation contains important changes to Annexes I, II, IV and V to the regulation (EU) No 10/2011.

This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Plastic materials and articles complying with Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 as applicable before the entry into force of this Regulation, and which were first placed on the market before 23 March 2021 may continue to be placed on the market until 23 September 2022 and remain on the market until the exhaustion of stocks.

The types of specific migration elements increased from the original 9 (Ba, Co, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Zn, Al, Ni. Limit unchanged) to 24 (Adding Ammonium, Sb, As, Cd, Ca, Cr, Eu, Gd, La, Pb, Mg, Hg, K, Na, Tb), of which the limit of 4 kinds of lanthanide substances (Eu, Gd, La, Tb) is 0.05mg/kg, and the limit of As, Cr, Pb , Hg are not detectable ( 0.01mg/kg), Cd is not detectable (0.002mg/kg), and there is no limit requirement for other elements.
