On 28 January 2020, IEC issued a new standard: IEC 60598-2-1:2000, This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1979 and Amendment 1:1987. This edition constitutes a technical revision.

This edition includes the following technical changes with respect to the previous edition (there are no major technical changes, see Annex A):
a) the scope has been modified to be in line with Part 1 to include all electric light sources,
b) references to Part 1 have been updated.

Above comparison shows that light sources have changed from tungsten, tubular fluorescent and discharge lamps to electrical light sources, that is, all electrically operated light sources are included in IEC 60598-2-1:20, including tungsten, tubular fluorescent lamps, other discharge lamps, and LED lights.
