EU Published REGULATION (EU) 2017/852 On Mercury

24th May 2017, The European Commission has published Commission regulation (EU) 2017/852 on mercury, and repealing Regulation (EC) No 1102/2008. This new Regulation establishes measures and conditions concerning the use and storage of and trade in mercury, mercury compounds and mixtures of mercury, and the manufacture and use of and trade in mercury-added products, and the management of mercury waste, in order to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment from anthropogenic emissions and releases of mercury and mercury compounds.

 

Regulation (EC) No 1102/2008 is repealed with effect from 1 January 2018. This Regulation (EU) 2017/852 shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. It shall apply from 1 January 2018.

 

Without prejudice to stricter requirements set out in other applicable Union legislation, the export, import and manufacturing in the Union of the mercury-added products set out in Annex shall be prohibited as from the dates set out therein.
