On 27 March 2017, EU ministers adopted the amendments to Annex II to toy safety directive to lower the lead limits.
This Directive (EU) 2017/738 shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The Regulation takes into operation from 28 October 2018. All toys to access the EU market should meet the requirements hereof.
The stricter limits for lead especially in scraped-off toy material, suddenly fell from 160mg/kg to 23mg/kg, will give rise to higher requirements on raw materials purchased, formula design and production techniques.
