On October 11, 2016, Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) issued three notifications G/TBT/N/KOR/676,G/TBT/N/KOR/678 and G/TBT/N/KOR/680 to the World Trade organization(WTO). They intend to revise children's product safety special law. Final date for comments is 60 days from notification.

Amendments

1. Notifications of G/TBT/N/KOR/676 covered three children's products (care articles for children, toy and school things) for safety confirmation. Draft revisions for safety confirmation for children's products (care articles for children, toy and school things) have been revised as follows:

※ Care articles for Children:

Addition of physical requirements for children's bed guards to verify structural safety Physically low-risk products was deleted from the category of children's synthetic resins products

※ Toys:

Addition of safety requirements and labeling requirements for ride able electromotive toys

Addition of safety requirements for harmful chemicals and corresponding change in testing methods

Addition of microbiological safety toys

※ School things:

Clarification of types of musical instruments in school supplies

Reflection of revisions to the toxic testing standard on drugs, etc.

2.  Notifications of G/TBT/N/KOR/678 covered textile products for infants. A draft revision for Safety Conformation Criteria for Textile Products for Infant notice has been revised as follows:

※ Electrical safety requirements for Textile Products for Infants including Li-ion battery and safety requirement for nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylate are added.

3.  Notifications of G/TBT/N/KOR/680 covered leather products for children and textile products for children. A draft revision for supplier conformation criteria for leather products for children, textile products for children notice has been revised as follows:

※ Electrical safety requirements for leather products for children including Li-ion battery are added

※ Electrical safety requirements for textile products for children including Li-ion battery and safety requirement for nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylate are added
